Visit Singapore Primary School Registration

Every July the parents of about 40,000 children will register their 6 year old for primary school.

6 years of primary school is compulsory in Singapore. Primary schools do not charge school fees but there is a monthly miscellaneous fee of S$5.50. The subjects taught are: English, Mother tongue, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, Art & Craft and Music. At Primary 6 (12 years old), students will take a Primary School Leaving Examination to get into Secondary School.

Good schools are highly sought after and parents will strive to move near the school, volunteer to serve the school, etc to ensure a place for their children. It is common for popular schools to conduct balloting exercises as demand exceeds supply. Here’s a look at the phases of Primary 1 registration:

Note: In case of balloting, priority will be given first to Singapore citizens who live less than 1 km from the school, followed by those who live between 1-2 km and then the same will apply to Permanent Residents.
