BBQ Pork

Buy Singapore Barbeque Pork

Every Lunar New Year, my father used to queue for Bak Kwa (Hokkien name for BBQ pork) at Lim Chee Guan in Chinatown. The queue is so long that the shop allows each person to buy a certain amount of BBQ pork only. You buy this by weight and the pack feels warm because it was cooked on the spot. Naturally the price of BBQ pork goes up in the days leading to Lunar New Year, some times to as much as S$50.00 per kg. The usual price of BBQ pork is around S$40.00 per kg. You can keep BBQ pork in the freezer for weeks and heat up before eating.

The other famous brand is Bee Cheng Hiang which has the most number of  outlets and offers individually packed BBQ pork.

BBQ pork comes in square pieces, long strips and round shape. The BBQ meat is now available in chicken, ostrich and others. The minced meat is marinated in various spices, dried and then grilled. The taste is a little sweet and burnt.

How do you eat it? You can eat it on its own or sandwich it between two slices of bread. It goes well with porridge too.

I would recommend BBQ pork as one of the best edible gifts from Singapore.
